Outdoor Learning Day!

5th Nov 2020

On Thursday, 5th November, the children in Year 3 and 4 had lots of fun for Outdoor Learning Day.  As it was 'Bonfire Night', the children had the opportunity to discuss what a bonfire was and together created their own little mini fire! We gathered in the Outdoor Classroom and had a discussion about how we light a fire and most important fire safety.  The children then branched off into groups and gathered some kindling to make their fire burn.  On their return, they were shown how to set a fire and how to keep a fire going safely.

As a special treat, the children got to toast some marshmallows over the fire (at a safe distance).  They then made smores by squishing their marshmallow between digestive biscuits!  As the embers died, the children had a story around the fire.  They were then shown how to distinguish a fire safely.  They knew from Forest School lessons that, 'leaving no trace' was so important, so they tidied up the area.

On the way back to class, we decided to take out the parachute and see how many leaves we could put on it in one minute... then together, with each child holding the parachute with both hands they made the leaves fly up into the air! What a fun way to end the lesson!
