🥞 Pancake Tuesday 🥞
Today in Year 4, we celebrated Pancake Tuesday with a fun and delicious practical activity. Over the past few weeks, the children have been learning all about instructional writing and they previously wrote their own recipe for making pancakes. Because of this, they came into today’s lesson confident, prepared and excited to put their instructions into action.
First, we revisited the recipe the children had written and discussed the importance of following steps in the correct order. Working together as a class, we measured, mixed and followed each instruction carefully. The children were brilliant at using the imperative verbs they had learned, such as mix, pour and flip and they loved seeing their written work come to life in the kitchen.
Our pancakes turned out absolutely delicious! Once they were cooked, the children chose from a range of tasty toppings, including chocolate spread, honey, strawberries, marshmallows and sprinkles. There were lots of happy faces as everyone enjoyed decorating, and then eating, their creations.
It was a wonderful way to combine learning with a hands-on experience and the children were very proud of their work. The pancakes were a huge success and as the class agreed, they were truly yummy!
