🍎🧑‍🍳Autumn Apple Adventures🍎🧑‍🍳

25th Nov 2025

As part of our learning about apples and seasonal nature, our P1/2 children took part in a hands-on, delicious classroom activity this week- making homemade apple purée! With autumn all around us, this was the perfect way to explore where our food comes from, how it’s made, and the joy of working together.

Every child had an important role in creating our purée. We began by carefully peeling the apples, then slicing them into small pieces ready for cooking. The children added the apples into our “class cooking pot”, followed by sugar, cinnamon, and a squeeze of lemon juice. After giving the mixture a thoughtful stir and adding a little water, we set it to cook and the classroom slowly filled with the warm, comforting smell of baked apples.

When it was ready, the children tucked into their homemade apple sauce served with a swirl of custard. It was a tasty, cosy treat on a chilly morning, and the smiles said it all!

This activity also linked perfectly to our learning on instructional writing. After making the purée, the children sequenced their photos in the correct order, and our P2s went on to write 3 steps, showing fantastic understanding and independence.
The learning continued into our outdoor play in the afternoon, where the children used the apple peel and seeds in the mud kitchen. They also had apples of different colour to wash and sort!

A wholesome, sensory, and skill-building day for our young learners…well done, everyone! 🍏✨
