🏆Canavan Cup Success🏆

20th May 2025

Today marked an incredible day of football for our school at the annual Canavan Cup Tournament held at St. Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley, as both our Boys’ and Girls’ teams came home victorious - each claiming glory in their respective competitions.

🏆Boys’ Team – Shield Champions🏆
The boys started the day with four tough opening games, which proved challenging and tested their resilience. Heads were down and confidence was shaken, but their fortunes changed when they learned they had qualified for the Shield Tournament. This news reignited their determination and, from then on, there was no stopping them.
With renewed spirit and unity, they delivered a series of outstanding performances, showcasing skill, talent and incredible teamwork. Every player gave their all, fighting hard for every ball and supporting one another every step of the way.
In the final, they faced a strong and talented team from Aughadarragh, but our boys rose to the occasion with grit and determination. Their drive to bring the shield home was clear and they emerged victorious in a thrilling match - an amazing achievement and a proud moment for the team and school.

🏆Girls’ Team – Cup Champions🏆
The Girls’ team had an impressive start to the tournament, winning 3 out of their 4 group games and securing a well-deserved place in the Cup Tournament. From the outset, they demonstrated focus and commitment, determined to work hard to reach the finals.
Their final matchup came against St. Mary’s, Ballygawley, a team they had faced earlier in the day and narrowly lost to. Despite some nerves, the girls remained composed and used the lessons from their earlier game to fuel a courageous and strategic performance. It was a tense, nail-biting final, with both teams level at half time.
With seconds left on the clock, our girls showed incredible composure under pressure, scoring a crucial point to edge ahead. When the final whistle blew, the team had secured a one-point victory in a game that will be remembered for its excitement and drama. The team spirit, determination and talent on display were nothing short of inspiring.

🤩A Note of Thanks🤩
A special thank you goes to Barry McGarvey for leading and supporting the boys throughout the day with encouragement and guidance. Thanks also to Mrs. McGarvey for her continued support - your efforts are deeply appreciated by both players and staff.

We are incredibly proud of all our boys and girls today. They displayed not only great skill and athleticism but also sportsmanship, teamwork and perseverance. Whether in moments of defeat or triumph, they carried themselves with grace and pride.

Well done to all - your school and community are beaming with pride!🥰☺️
