St Patrick's Primary School Eskra

Cross Country at Necarne.

17th Jan 2023

St. Patrick’s fielded 3 teams on Tuesday, 17th January in Irvinestown in the 2nd round of the Flahavan's Ulster Cross Country League. Eskra race in the Tyrone/Fermanagh district, with only the top 3 teams qualifying for the Ulster final in February.

Our fun runners were up first over the 1.6km course. The course was slippy, long and finished with a tough hill. No problem for our determined fun run team. Conor and Noah running close together followed by Matthew saw the boys all cross the line. Emer, Una and Tori all paced it perfectly beside each other finishing in the top half of the race field.

Our Girls' Team were up next - right from the start our young ladies meant business.  Absolutely dominating the race, they finished in the following order - Alannah 4th, Clindna 12th, Shannon 15th, Freya 35th, Anna-Kate 54th and Carly 63rd. When the scores were calculated, our Girls' Team took 1st place on the day! First place out of 16 schools! Well done girls!

Finally our boys took to the line, in a highly competitive race, our boys raced as a team and crossed the finish line in the following order. Oisin 6th, Cormac 8th, Ben 12th, Peadar 16th and Thomas 28th.  A strong team performance, the boys throughly deserve second place in the table.

Well done to all the boys and girls who participated with enthusiasm and excitement despite the freezing conditions. A special Thank You to Mrs. Tracey Scullion for preparing the children and for her guidance and encouragement throughout the day. Thank you to Mr. Meenagh and Mrs. Shevlin who travelled with the children and kept them safe all day. It was wonderful to see all the parents and supporters who braved the weather to cheer the teams on.
