Welly Wednesday: Self Portraits
Year 3 had great fun creating self-portraits inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo, the artist who made faces using fruit, vegetables and flowers. After looking at his amazing pictures, the children collected natural materials from the playground and garden. They used leaves, petals, twigs and stones to represent different features—like bright flowers for eyes or bark for hair. Everyone enjoyed experimenting and thinking about how colours and textures could show something about their personality. The finished portraits were imaginative, playful and full of character, showing how nature can be used in creative ways to make art that feels truly personal.
