This week in Nature Rangers, Year 4 got hands‑on and messy while making their very own wormeries! First, we carefully created layers inside the containers by placing stones at the bottom for drainage. We then added a layer of soil, followed by another layer of stones and soil.
Next came the messy part—finding worms! Some children found worms straight away, while others had to search a little longer, showing great perseverance. Once the worms were added, we placed gauze over the top and covered the wormeries with paper to keep them dark, as worms prefer these conditions.
Finally, we placed the wormeries carefully inside a box to keep them safe. We are looking forward to checking on them tomorrow to see how the worms have settled into their new homes.
